Playing with ISO and Long Exposures

Because the D200 is like trying to understand your schizo girlfriend. (And it's not just me. Real deal pro photogs say the settings menu is completely scatterbrained.) I decided to start playing with low light situations to try and get this sorted once and for all. Since I don't have Greg to model his fancy boy threads....I used Tom's 68 graciously on loan. The light is coming from a normal porch light which most of the time isn't enough to do shit when taking a picture. But fingerbang some settings and hold the shutter open for about 15 seconds and BAM you got light!

Composition isn't great. It's just getting clear shots using slower shutter speeds low light and ghetto tripods (cut up blocks of 2*4). Besides its fucking COLD out there tonight.

Ok so then wanting to play a bit more I decided to get out the real deal tripod and take some pics of the 79.

Then I wanted to catch some nice candy on the rear fender. I adjusted the tripod or so I thought. The shutter time was some 10 seconds. It wasnt until the last two that the tripod started to fall forward. This is what it looks like seconds before ruining the filter threads on your $500 lens. The horror.

Ron “Bull” Meader 1959-2008

I received an email today from a girl that grew up next to Ron. Her dad spent many long nights helping him build this bike. Ron's nickname was Home Depot. He was the guy on the block that would always have that oddball part you needed for whatever project you were working on.
Aug. 21, 2008 a man on the opposite side of the highway fell asleep at the wheel and hit Ron head on killing him on impact. Melissa and her dad Chris said that he often mentioned wanting to see his bike in IH, but was too shy to send it in. I'm not sure which issue yet, but Ron and his bike will be in IH soon.

all in my nutsack

I used to travel like a hobo with my emergency stash of nuts, bolts, cotter pins & stuff in a plastic bag inside my toolkit. but plastic bags get blown out quick from the vibes, then when you need it you got nothin... but thanks to Shannon and her trusty sewing machine, my stash travels in style!
